Hayat Foundation, with financial support from UNICEF, launched six WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Punjab, and FATA areas, as well as conducted the WASH activities under education and protection projects. These projects aimed to improve access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and promote hygiene practices, ultimately enhancing public health and quality of life in the targeted regions. Key activities under these project are:
Needs Assessments – Conducted comprehensive assessments in both emergency and non-emergency settings to identify WASH gaps and needs.
Awareness & Capacity Building – Organized community sessions and health & hygiene groups to encourage the adoption of safe hygiene practices.
Sanitation Planning – Developed and supported the implementation of school- and community-based sanitation plans.
Safe Drinking Water – Provided access to clean drinking water to children in government schools and surrounding communities, coupled with hygiene education.
Water Quality Testing – Carried out water testing initiatives prior to installing hand pumps and deep wells to ensure safety.
Capacity Development – Trained children, teachers, school councils, Taleemi Islahi Jirgas (TIJs), and community-based organizations (CBOs) on hygiene promotion using behavior change communication (BCC) strategies.
Solid Waste Management – Introduced sustainable solid waste management interventions and improved sanitation facilities under various projects.
Infrastructure Development – Constructed nearly 1,500 VIP pit latrines, triple cabin toilets, and around 775 handwashing stations in Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, and other districts.
Teacher & School Engagement – Enhanced the capacity of 8,000+ teachers, school council members, and school monitors on water safety, risk mitigation, school environment improvement, and hygiene practices.
Child Engagement – Formed child clubs with 154,000 members, raising awareness on handwashing, safe water use, and hygiene practices.
School Development – Renovated and constructed classrooms in five schools under the Adopt a School Project.
School Environment Plans – Developed and implemented 1,200 School Environment Improvement Plans (SEIPs) in government schools across Punjab.
Community Outreach – Conducted 4,500+ hygiene awareness sessions in communities and relief camps, directly benefiting over 105,000 individuals.
Awareness Campaigns – Promoted hygiene practices through wall chalking and the distribution of BCC materials in target areas.
Emergency Support – Distributed 20,000+ hygiene and family kits to flood-affected communities.
